Fall I Want Book Review

Fall I Want Book Review

Fall I Want by Lyra Parish
2025 Edition

If there’s one thing I’m a sucker for, it’s anything and everything fall-related. The “-ber” months have always had a hold on me—how could they not, when I was born in November? Seeing all the fall-themed book releases leading up to the season is one of my favorite things (besides the décor, of course). Last year, when I became an ARC reader, two of the first books I received from a PR company were from Lyra Parish. So when Fall I Want appeared on NetGalley, I ran to request it. I’ll admit, my hopes weren’t too high since I don’t usually have much luck on that platform, but this time the odds were in my favor—and I was thrilled to be approved. Needless to say, my excitement was through the roof.

In Fall I Want, we’re transported to the cozy small town of Cozy Hollow, where we meet Autumn, an aspiring writer and barista at the local coffee shop. After a difficult breakup, she’s been struggling to write, her creativity seemingly frozen. The only spark of excitement in her life is a mysterious man who’s been haunting her dreams for quite some time. Enter Zane Alexander, a billionaire who recently retreated to Cozy Hollow to escape the chaos of fame, a scandalous breakup, and an unflattering documentary that has put him in the spotlight for all the wrong reasons.

Autumn’s first encounter with Zane is rocky, to say the least, but something about him feels strangely familiar. Curious as ever, Autumn soon finds herself tangled in one of Zane’s unexpected “offers.” Their paths cross again when Autumn’s ex resurfaces, and Zane—who knows him all too well—steps in with another proposition, this time one that could benefit them both. What starts as a compromise quickly sets the stage for a romance neither of them anticipated.

This story weaves in delightful touches of magical realism, giving me strong Practical Magic vibes. As someone who adores fall settings and stories with a mystical twist, I found it to be the perfect cozy read. The romance is fast-paced, filled with autumnal charm, and sprinkled with mouthwatering seasonal treats—seriously, don’t read this one on an empty stomach. And like your pumpkin spice latte, it comes with its own shot of spice.

If you’re a fan of classic romance tropes, this book has you covered: fake dating, billionaire hero, insta-love, and that subtle thread of magical realism. The result is a heartwarming, festive, and undeniably swoony romance. My only minor critique is that I personally enjoy a bit of third-act drama (yes, I’m that reader), and this story doesn’t lean into that tension as much as I’d hoped. Still, that’s just a personal preference—overall, it was a charming and satisfying read.

Fall I Want is fun, cute, and festive, with just the right mix of sweetness and spice. A wonderful way to kick off my fall reading season, and an easy 4/5 stars from me. If you haven’t read anything by Lyra Parish yet, I highly recommend that you do! My introduction to her work was book one of the Billionaire Situation series, The Wife Situation—and let me tell you, what an introduction. Absolute 5/5 reads across the board. The fifth book in the series releases on September 4th, and the best part? It’s autumn-themed. Sounds like the perfect excuse to binge the first four books just in time for number five!
