The Baby Clause: A Funny, Feel-Good Short Film You’ll Want on Your Radar

I’ve been part of the Hambright PR influencer list for a year now, and during that time I’ve had the chance to read so many amazing books as an ARC reader—it’s truly been an incredible experience. What I never expected, though, was to one day receive an email inviting me to read and review a script for a short film.
What I’ve never really shared before is that, as a teenager, one of my biggest dreams was to become a screenwriter. I’m pretty sure there are plenty of people in the industry who, after watching Titanic in theaters, walked out wanting to be part of storytelling magic like that—whether as a writer, actor, costume designer, or something else entirely. For me, it was two things: I wanted to act, and I wanted to write.
After seeing Titanic six times at the theater (yes, six!), I spent most of my teenage years writing stories and learning everything I could about screenwriting. While I never fulfilled that dream—yet; who knows what could still happen—I deeply regret not keeping those early stories, and even more so, not continuing to write. My brain still comes up with story ideas as if I never stopped.
So when the opportunity came to read the script for The Baby Clause written by L.K. Bermudez, I jumped at it. I’ve read and reviewed hundreds of books, but reading this screenplay felt like coming home.

In this short film, we meet Bianca—a successful lawyer in her 30s who has her life together in almost every way… except love. After several failed relationships and a recent heartbreak caused by infidelity, Bianca decides she’s officially done with dating. Another round of heartbreak just isn’t worth it.
The only issue? She still dreams of becoming a mother. While adoption and IVF are possible options, Bianca knows adoption as a single mother might be difficult, and IVF is out of the question—not just because of the cost, but because she has a deep fear of needles. For her, there’s only one solution: to do things the old-fashioned way. All she needs is someone willing to help and agree to her one big condition—once it’s done, he’s gone.
Of course, this being a romantic comedy, the story brings plenty of humor and heart—especially through Bianca’s best friends, Shane, Letty, and Didi. And then there’s Donovan, a charming marketing executive and single father to Gabby, a ten-year-old with the biggest heart and the most clever, calculated mind when it comes to finding her dad a girlfriend. While reading, I couldn’t help but picture Gabby as a young Lindsay Lohan in The Parent Trap.
The story is funny, lighthearted, and full of both chaos and touching moments. If you’re a fan of rom-coms—especially ones like Jennifer Aniston’s The Switch—you’re going to love this one.

The good news? The Baby Clause has wrapped filming and is now in post-production, so hopefully we’ll get to see these characters come to life soon!
A huge thank-you to writer L.K. Bermudez and the amazing team at Hambright PR for this opportunity.
